Developing the Whole Child

Our ECE program promotes the development of the whole child including: social/emotional development, physical development, language development, and cognitive development.

Developing the Whole Child
  • The main emphasis at the Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten levels is on social/emotional development. ISM provides experiences for the children to develop pro-social behaviors, develop self-confidence, and develop self-help skills.
  • During the Pre-Kindergarten year, more time is spent on developing the cognitive skills necessary for entry into Kindergarten.
  • The full-day Kindergarten program completes the students' preparation for the Lower School.
  • At all levels of the ECE program, ISM encourages the development of gross and fine motor skills through music, art, movement, and working with manipulatives. All Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten children enjoy outdoor play daily, weather permitting, and participate in weekly swimming lessons.
  • Students in all levels are provided with a variety of learning experiences for language and literacy development including singing, dramatic play, poems, finger plays, and read aloud stories.
  • To develop phonetic skills which support students' quest to read, students use the fun-filled program called Letterland each week. It is through this program that letters become friendly, enjoyable characters whose letter shapes and sounds are explained in a memorable way.
